Avon-by-the-Sea and Ocean Grove, New Jersey, May 1st, 2001

I took the day off to celebrate the fact that I still have a job.

The beach at Avon-by-the-Sea

This was the first picture I took, and by far the best of the day. Fortunately, you can't see the drainage pipe on the other side of the jetty, and you can't hear the earthmover that made it hard to hear the ocean, which eventually drove me out of Avon and up to Ocean Grove for the afternoon.

More beach, with Asbury Park in the distance

You can see the southern end of the Asbury Park boardwalk in the distance from Avon.

The First Goose

I met some geese on Fletcher lake, which forms the border between Ocean Grove and Bradley Beach.

Goosed again

The natives were friendly.

Dogwoods in bloom

Dogwoods in bloom in downtown Ocean Grove. The lighting in this picture doesn't really do them justice. This would probably look better early in the morning.

Bikes in front of the hardware store

Ready for the bennies.

Newsstand/Stationers

Cheerful colors, eh?
