The Toast

Ralph's brother Steve gave the toast at the wedding, and did a wonderful job of it:

Let us all raise our glasses to toast the marriage of Ralph and Laura. On this beautiful day we are all here to commemorate the joining of two people who are devoted to each other and, from my perspective, perfect for each other.

I heard that there was some brief discussion of an elopement and I heard something about Las Vegas and an Elvis minister. Although I personally would have liked to have seen pictures from a ceremony like this, I think all of us here can agree that we are glad to be included in the celebration of their union here by the shore.

Ralph and Laura got to know each other as friends through mutual interests on the Internet back when the only people who knew what the Internet was were a couple of engineers and nerds. Luckily, Laura was an engineer and Ralph was a nerd.

Since then, they have been inseparable and a very loving and caring couple. Ralph proposed to Laura at the edge of the Grand Canyon on a trip to Arizona, and 6-1/2 short years later, they pulled together a beautiful wedding.

I am certain, as we all are, that Ralph and Laura will have many years of happiness together and that their love for each other will be as long and deep as the Grand Canyon and as pervasive as the Internet today.

(This is the toast as written. As delivered, Ralph stepped on Steve's punchline about the engineer and nerd [stupid!] by pointing to Laura and saying "engineer", then to himself and saying "nerd"; Steve tells me there were other minor differences. But this is close enough.)
